MEDIA RELEASE 25th June 2002 Sharon Gillett, Director of e-JAZ, an IT company specialising in currency conversion services, is awarded the 2002 Women in Information Technology (WIT) Unisys Business Innovation Award, presented by Bruce Wittle, Service Manager Business, Bank of Queensland, in the presence of the Hon. Terry MacKenroth, Deputy Premier of Queensland. The award was presented at the WIT Unisys Awards Dinner on Saturday 15th June at the Walter Burnett Building in the RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane, where 390 people were in attendance. Sharon received the only business category award of the 9 awards presented. e-JAZ, an IT company, specialise in services that reduce the barriers
to international trade faced by Australian businesses when selling their
products through the internet. The judges said, "e-JAZ is a great business innovation in many ways. Not only do they display innovative ICT development, but business initiatives that enable the company to grow and move forward. e-JAZ demonstrates that hard work, determination and the strength to believe in yourself will carry you a long way." e-JAZ was formed in April 2001 by Sharon Gillett and fellow director, Andrew Wild. Together they developed an inline currency conversion service for e-commerce web sites called JAZconvert. This product allows an Australian business to automatically display its web site product prices in the currency of the person viewing their web site. For example, people in Japan would automatically see all product prices in Japanese Yen. e-JAZ has now grown to a client base of over 100 in Australia, the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand. At only 26 years of age, Sharon Gillett is an inspiration to other young Australians with a determination to succeed. Sharon is actively involved in several organisations; as President of the Electronic Business Interest Group (eBIG) and with WIT and QUT Entrepreneur.
